I edited that.
Hi, I’m Brynn! I’m a book editor and publishing consultant. I help authors get from messy manuscript to beautifully published book.
About Me
I edit fiction and nonfiction at every stage: developmental, line, and copy. I take the manuscript an author has poured themselves into and help make it clear, engaging, and error-free, while keeping it true to their voice.
I’ve edited two Wall Street Journal bestsellers, Beyond the Building and 60 Days to LinkedIn Mastery (which also became a USA Today bestseller), along with business and nonfiction titles including Chief Marketing Officers at Work, Global Mindset, and a recent book on AI for non-technical leaders. I’ve worked with executives, entrepreneurs, and other professionals whose books have been published independently, traditionally, and through hybrid publishers, and I’m excited to be editing a forthcoming memoir for a high-profile individual.
My editing career started in 2001 when I was hired to proofread for CultureGrams, a leading reference resource on world cultures. And as a graduate student at Brigham Young University, I became one of two editors for the university’s Forever Families Website.
That early experience led me to editing books, which has been my focus since 2011. Once an author has their words down on the page, I help them organize the content, clarify their message, correct grammatical errors and other problems, and make sure the book is interesting and engaging. I’m detail-oriented and thorough, committed to delivering a great final product.
I help authors through the full publication process, from choosing a title, finding the right cover and interior designer, establishing a publishing imprint, and purchasing ISBN numbers, to writing a book description, requesting endorsements, publishing on Amazon KDP and IngramSpark, and offering pointers on marketing.
I’m an author myself, so I understand what writers go through to bring a book into the world. Under the pen name Daisy Rains I write children’s picture books, and I co-edited the Why I Love Homeschooling series, an anthology of essays from dozens of homeschooling parents. I’ve also published in academic settings and worked as a content editor for large websites, with articles published in Fast Company, Forbes, TIME, Mashable, and TechCrunch.
My Editing Focus
I’m a developmental, line, and copy editor. I take a written manuscript and shape it, sentence by sentence and as a whole, until it’s ready for print. I address big-picture structure through to final proofreading.
I specialize in nonfiction self-help, how-to, and business books. However, I’m happy to copy edit and line edit any book.
A Personal Note
I’m a wife to an author and book coach, an author myself, and mom to three amazing children and two dogs. I love traveling, hiking, and practicing yoga, and I’m an avid reader across every genre.
I was born in Texas and have lived all over the US, as well as in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Germany. I currently live in “it’s a dry heat” Arizona.
What My Clients Say
“Brynn is an exceptional editor and an even more exceptional person. I had the pleasure of working with her on my book, Global Mindset: A Guide for Cross-Cultural Leadership, and her professionalism, dedication, and thoughtful attention to detail made the entire process a true joy. I recommend Brynn without reservation to any author or organization looking for a talented, dependable, and collaborative editor.”
— Steve McKinney
“You are the best editor I've ever worked with. Seriously. Thank you for investing so much not just in spelling and grammar but flow and what it takes to take a book from an F to an A. I very much appreciate your work on this project!”
— Jason Alba
“Brynn did a great job of helping me through the editing process, and quickly too! She has a fabulous combination of attention to detail as well as literary creativity, helping me take my rougher writing and turn it into a readable and actionable book, The Intentional Engineer, that has been well received. She also guided me through the basics of the publishing process, which, as a first time author, was a big deal. The book turned out beautifully as she typeset it for print and eBook versions, and it looks great! The book sold many copies during its first year and received the Distinguished Literary Contribution award from IEEE, the largest engineering professional society. So grateful to have her help along my path as an author!”
— Jeff Perry
“Brynn is one of my favorite people to work with. If you want to self-publish a book, she has the expertise you need. She will save you hours of work. As an author, I value the effort she puts in to ensuring that tasks are completed on time. It is a rather technical and detailed process that she has mastered. As writers, we need to stay in our lane and work with others who can support our creative endeavors. Brynn is that amazing partner who takes pride in her work and makes your life easier.”
— Sourena Vasseghi
“Brynn is a true professional. She is an expert at her craft, from formatting to finding the right cover designer, getting ISBN numbers, publishing on Amazon, getting reviews written, choosing the right layout and font, setting up an imprint company, and creating a logo. She did a superb job at all of this for me. She also did an excellent job researching references for my bibliography and making sure I adhered to style guidelines for important details like numbers and quotes. When it was ready for Amazon, my book looked professionally published. I was very pleased with the end product thanks to Brynn. She is responsive, smart, and supportive. Brynn listens to her clients and delivers on what is important to them. I am very grateful I found her and would highly recommend her to any authors.”
